5 Must-Know Agricultural Trends in 2025: From Red Lion Pumps to Smart Turf

Agriculture is constantly changing. While some of this is due to shifting climate conditions, technology upgrades can also change how it’s done. That’s why industry employees need to know what to look out for each year. We’re nearly halfway through 2025, but there’s still plenty of time to wrap your head around these trends. One of them is smart turf. More on that. Here are those five trends to be aware of.

Red Lion Pumps

When you’re irrigating a lot of land, you want to make sure that you’ve got reliable pumps. Red Lion pumps are perfect for the job, thanks to how many choices you have. You can get one for nearly any task.

  • Lawn & Irrigation:  You can choose between pressure-boosting sprinklers or portable ones.
  • Sump Pumps: There are several determining factors, like whether you want them above ground or submerged, and what kind of volume of water you’re going to be moving.
  • Well Pumps: You can get ones that go down as far as 250 feet.

You can also use them for automatic utility jobs like water transfer, septic tanks, and even drawing water from wells. They are durable and can get the job done. If you get one for your needs, you’ll be in good shape for ‘25.

Smart Turf

People also call this artificial turf. You might be wondering how it can help with agriculture. It can’t be used for growing things, right?

While that is the case, people can put in areas that need to look nice year-round. Then, they can devote their time and water resources to the main crops and other areas that need water. They won’t have to maintain a lawn that has turf, for example.

You’ve got choices, too. There are several different types, and each of them has their uses. You can have great-looking lawns and plentiful crops.

A.I.

Yes, this seems to be the big buzzword used by a lot of companies in a lot of different fields — including writing. This post was written by a person, honest! The agricultural field has a lot of uses for artificial intelligence to be able to have consistently strong harvests.

Here are just a few ways that it can be used:

  • Pest and Weed Detection:  It’s important to be able to precisely target where to spray pesticides and herbicides. A.I. can analyze a lot of data and show you exactly where to go.
  • Analyzing Crop Health: If you’ve got sensors and cameras placed around your crops, they can analyze the data and warn you if there’s any impending trouble.
  • Yield Predictions and Crop Analysis: A.I. can see what historical crop performances occurred and measure it against the current weather forecasts. That way, it can predict what kind of yield you’ll get that year.
  • Analyzing Nutrient Levels of Soil – You can have it look at the real-time nutrient levels in your soil and then create a plan around when to add any. That way, you won’t disturb the soil and actually make it healthier.

As a game show host would say, “That’s not all!” There are other ways to use it, such as combining it with robotics to do things like pick fruits and vegetables when they are exactly ready, cut rose stems, plant tulip bulbs, and do weeding. It’s easy to scale it to your needs.

Biotechnical Advancements

There are quite a few ways that this can be used to your advantage. You can do things like gene-editing by using CRISPR, genetic modification by adding new traits into the crops, putting food additives in, and also automating tissue culture.

Let’s say that you’re in an area prone to drought. You can have traits added to make your crops drought-resistant.  This is a field that is going to continue to grow and AI will likely play a big part, too.

Renewable Energy

Running a farm is expensive in so many different ways. Energy bills can be extremely high, for example. There are a lot of ways to reduce that though, and renewable energy is at the forefront.  They can even make money off some of this.

For example, they could create green hydrogen from things like feedstock (corn, sugar cane, or even food waste). There’s also the option of creating biogas from methane that emits from cow manure. They can even combine solar panels and grazing fields — the animals will love eating in the shade on those hot summer days.

Those are five trends like smart turf. Others include growing crops in a controlled environment, like aeroponic farming, using blockchain for farming, and using the Internet of Things. There are a lot of options.

As we move into the other half of the 2020s, technology is only going to become even more prevalent over the years. While humans will be needed to ensure overall quality, automation will become the standard, not the exception.
