Sowing time of Gram in Pakistan
- Northern Punjab: sow from late September to mid-November, with earliest sowing starting around Sept 25.
- Central, Southern & Thal areas: sow through October into mid-November (roughly Oct 1 – Nov 15).
Seed rate: 30–35 kg per acre
Plant population target: 85,000–95,000 plants/acre
Spacing: 30 cm row-to-row, 15 cm plant-to-plant
Fertilizer: 1 to 1.5 bags of DAP
Harvest window: mid-April to early May
Market rate of Gram in Punjab is Rs. 13000 to Rs. 21000 per 100 kg bag.

Why the Gram crop has been declining in Pakistan:
- Farmers not using improved, certified seed
- Low levels of mechanization and irrigation
- Growers switching to more profitable crops like Wheat and Orchards once water is available.
- Growth of the wood industry (competing for land use)
- Climate change — unpredictable rainfall and temperature swings
